Labourface Day 2024 & our latest projects

If you’ve been following along the last few months, you’ll know we’ve gone from winter doldrums, through a depressing downturn in projects that we fought off with a conscious effort to connect with, and help fellow business owners. We’re now well into the joy and hope of spring and that means Labourface Day! Our 10th one!

10 years.

10 years of celebrating our excellent clients and the projects they bring to us to play with. Looking back over the years, the Tequila trees really stand out, the G&T cake and the cute gifs where we brought each ingredient to life.

It’s our first Labourface Day without Sean who had been on the team since our inception but solidified his Kiwi citizenship by relocating across the ditch last year, to New Zealand’s Westernmost island - Australia. Hooroo.

This is the holiday I choose to show some gratitude for my clients. Some years I celebrate the clients I have worked with for a long time, other years I embrace new connections just starting to bloom. Either way, it’s about taking some time to say thank you.

I choose Labour Day because it's not only work-related (no brainer) but also close enough and far enough away from Christmas to not be considered just another corporate Christmas gift. I find everyone is in such a rush around Christmas and messages tend to get a bit lost. Labour weekend… not so much, we’re all enjoying a day off before the hike to the silly season.

This year I reached out to some of new connections to say thank you for choosing me to help bring their brands to life. What better wee gift than some Lemon Balm from Seeds of Pakeho. It’s stress-relieving, mood-lifting and strengthens the memory. Perfect.

I hope everyone had a great long weekend, the weather was miserable in Horowhenua, but it was the perfect excuse to cosy up with a book.

Latest Projects

Lewis Farms tamper seal labels

We designed and produced a simple one piece sticker to seal the hulking 2kg jar of farm grown wholeberry jam! We knew we had to capture those whole berries suspended in no-longer-whole berries and the image is 🤌🏽

Check out some of the other work we have created over the years for this business.

Levin Budget Service identity

We’ve applied fun and colour to this project that is ongoing and created a suite of graphics and marketing collateral that is friendly, approachable and modern without looking like it’s too serious. This is a great project that reminds us that what we’re selling (budgeting) isn’t actually what we’re selling. What we’re selling in this instance is empowerment in a service that is non-threatening. This service is the starting point to lead folks on their way to control of their finances, regaining confidence and putting them on the path to financial freedom. Making sure the communication aligns visually is key to attracting the people the services are designed to help.

More to come and I'm so excited to share it with you in coming months.

Out and about

Estuary research

I’ve spent a lot of time out and about in Foxton the last month. I put on my research boots, strapped on my camera and observed the Manawatū Estuary for reference photos of birds that I used to create illustrations for an upcoming exhibition launching in November at Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom in Foxton. This is going to be an epic exhibition for kids and adults, more details to come next month.

Lemonface Lens

@lemonfacelens is a Lemonface outlet for creative expression, a place for play and joy. Here are a few views through the lens that stood out for us this month.

The auroras just keep coming. I’ve found myself an excellent vantage point (more time spent in Foxton) and captured the ‘rays’ for the first time ever. much squeeeee how incredible is this light show?

Boo the dragon

Do you think she knows I’ve tricked her into a Halloween photoshoot with her favourite flavour of worms and she’s the star and the main reason you read all the way to the end of the newsletter? I reckon she does. Mua ah ah hahhaha haaa
